The latest attack to hit Twitter is a "security nightmare" and marks the first time hackers have taken to using the micro-blogging site for profit, a researcher said today. Unlike earlier cross-site scripting attacks on Twitter, the latest wasn't a worm, said Roel Schouwenberg, a senior antivirus researcher with Moscow-based Kaspersky Labs.

Instead, it's something even scarier: The first instance of hackers serving up "scareware," fake security software that, once installed, nags users with so many alerts that some fork over $50 or more just to "register" the program and get rid of the warnings.

"This is just another scareware installer," Schouwenberg said, referring to the malware that's downloaded onto victimized PCs. "There's no worm component. But it's quite significant as it's the first time that Twitter's been used for a traditional type of attack."

Over the weekend, Twitter users began receiving tweets with the phrase "Best Video" and a link to a Russian domain. Although those who clicked on the link were directed to a site with a video, they were also served a malicious PDF document via an IFRAME on that site. The PDF, said Schouwenberg, contains a number of exploits, and tries each in turn. If it's able to compromise the computer using one of those exploits, the malware then installs phony security software.

The PDF appears to contain attack code from "LuckySploit," a relatively-new multi-strike hacker toolkit that uses malicious JavaScript, said Schouwenberg.

On Saturday, Twitter warned users of the tweets with the "Best Video" link, then later noted that it had suspended compromised accounts, but would restore then shortly after they'd been scrubbed.

Twitter's not able to remove any malware installed by the attacks, of course, leaving that chore up to users.

Schouwenberg's sure that Twitter's talk of cleaning accounts was a smokescreen, as unlike attacks in April, this one wasn't a worm. "There was no self-replicating code in the binary," he said. Instead, Schouwenberg believes that the malicious tweets were sent from Twitter accounts whose log-on credentials had been hijacked previously by basic phishing-style scams.

"When I first saw this Saturday night, I thought of the Twitter phishing attack, which was quite high profile," said Schouwenberg. "Phishing always has a greater purpose ... so when all of a sudden you see a new 'worm' but there's no worm component [in the attack code], it's clear that this was based on compromised accounts, rather than self-replicating."

Schouwenberg also found the links in the malicious tweets on multiple Web forums, giving credence to his theory that hijacked accounts were used to launch the scareware attack.

Twitter users should expect to see more such attacks, Schouwenberg said. "The whole idea of Twitter is to click on links," he said. "It's a security nightmare."

Basically, cloud computing is an environment / platform that is designed for users to be able to access the application from various devices connected to the Internet from any parts of the world which drastically reduces the energy to process (processor) and increase productivity.

The Panda security technology using their own called 'Collective Intelligence' in the Cloud Antivirus so that this can provide a high level of protection in real time, and reduce the use of system resources on your computer. This technology is a database can detect the virus, malware, rootkit, and heuristics. Because this application is located on the Internet, the Cloud Antivirus does not require the system to update the virus definitions as well as in the traditional anti-virus. New virus sample obtained from the millions of users their security applications to detect new malware faster, where the Collective Intelligence can make a new classification of malware in less than six minutes per day so that they can handle the 50,000 new samples.

When the scan process, Cloud Antivirus will work to do with the classification of the threats that exist, which can be executable file (. Exe) will be a priority for review does not compare to that. Speed also amazing, according to a statement from the Panda, because the scan is done through the server PandaLab, the detection level can be higher. Then make sure the process continues to scan your computer to always connected to the internet.

NiceTranslator was created during the Fall of 2008 to provide an improved interface for translating text on the Web. Although web-technologies have advanced greatly recently, existing online translators remain cumbersome to use.

Thanks to the Google Translation API, we were able to focus on designing a simple and functional online translator, unlike any other to date.

We will continue to develop NiceTranslator over the coming months but will not stray from our initial purpose of providing an easy to use and straightforward online translator.

Google has decided to terminate several products that weren't up to the Google's standards or now redundant.

Here ar the projects:

* Google Video
* Google Catalog Search
* Google Notebook
* Dodgeball
* Jaiku
* Google Mashup Editor

In a few months, support for uploads to Google Video will be discontinued and YouTube and Picasa Web Albums will be left to handle the video uploads.

In 2001, Google Catalog Search was launched as a demonstration of OCR technology and lead to Google's Book Search which hasn't been as popular as some of Google's other products. Catalog search will be given a farewell on 15th January 2009.

Starting next week, Google plans to stop active development on Google Notebook, but will continue to maintain the service for those who've already signed up via the web interface here. The official Google notebook blog also provides information about other products which offer Notebook's functionalities.

Dodgeball, the mobile social network acquired by Google that lets users share their location with friends via text message is also being shutdown in the next couple of months as it is getting replaced by other popular mobile social networks like twitter.

Once Jaiku is migrated to Google App Engine ,a new Jaiku Engine project will be released on Google Code under the Apache License which will act as an open source microblogging platform .Development will halt and a group of Google volunteers will take care of the existing service.

The Google Mashup Editor which is currently in limited private beta, shutdown in 6 months in favour of the more powerful App Engine infrastructure.

We have today released the first BETA version of our Javascript URL Library. This library is available for use under the GPL.

This Javascript library facilitates the easy construction and deconstruction of URL strings by breaking the URL into it’s various components.

This library is capable or taking a URL as a string or using the current window.location and parsing it into a URL object. Any of the components of the URL can then easily be manipulated as required and the modified URL string can be retrieved. The manipulation of query string arguments is facilitated by the addArg and removeArg methods.

The download for this library includes the Javascript code, a minified copy of the code, an HTML file containing examples and test cases and license information.

The project is available here.

A brief run down of the functions/methods available in this library:

FLQ.URL - Fliquid URL building/handling class.

thisURL() - Parses the current window.location and returns a FLQ.URL object.

set() - Parses a URL and sets the properties of the FLQ.URL object.

removeArg() - Is used remove a specified argument from the FLQ.URL object arguments.

addArg() - Is used to add an argument with specified value to the FLQ.URL object arguments.

parseURL() - Parses the specified URL and returns an object containing the various components.

parseArgs() - Parses a query string and returns an object containing the parsed data.

toArgs() - Takes an object and returns a query string

toAbsolute() - Returns a string containing the absolute URL for the current FLQ.URL object.

toRelative() - Returns a string containing the relative URL for the current FLQ.URL object.

isHost() - Is used to determine whether the host in the FLQ.URL object matches the current host.

toString() - Returns a string containing the current FLQ.URL object as a URL.

A new service through the Twitter micro-blogger aims to foster conversations between British Members of Parliaments and constituents.

Anything that opens communications between politicians and the people they represent has to be a good thing, right? That’s what the people behind a new service, TweetMinster, are hoping, anyway.

Operating through micro-blogging service, Twitter, it allows people to communicate quickly with their MPs and also receive feeds of Twitter posts by their MPs and others. Voters can even e-mail their MPs and urge them to sign up for the service.

TweetMinster is a collaboration between UnLtdWorld and creative agency ThinMartian. It came about when Alberto Nardelli, chief executive at UnLtdWorld, noticed an American service, Tweet Congress.
"I was inspired by it, and thought that it would be a wicked idea to have something similar in the UK. Ultimately the goal is to improve communications between parliament and people, as we feel that more transparent conversations will mean better government."

In this collection, you’ll find free Photoshop brush sets for current design trends and styles such as vintage, retro, grunge, hand-drawn, swirls, and nature-inspired.

Note: It’s important to read the fine-print - some designers require attribution or have special requirements for commercial use. Even if they don’t require any credit, it’s always highly-appreciated to give them some anyways.
