VLC 1.0.0-rc1, codename Goldeneye, is a test release of the 1.0.0 version of VLC. It introduces many new codecs, various playback core improvements (frame-by-frame, live-recording, instant pausing, etc...), interface improvements, new features and many bugfixes. We encourage people to test and report regressions that could have crept in this release.
That’s right; the first release candidate for VLC media player 1.0 is now up for grabs, offering a peek of what we should expect from the finalized version.
VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
It doesn't need any external codec or program to work. Change log.

Wow that's a really old VLC back in 2 years time. I still remember when I first downloaded the oldest version of VLC, and since then I become its top fans, using it till today. I would say VLC is among the best free music player for windows, due to its compatibility with various audio format and light-weighted.
